The 5th fifth and final Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy is underway at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Team India is led by skipper Jasprit Bumrah in the contest, with Rohit Sharma opting out owing to poor form in recent matches.
Skipper Bumrah had opted to bat first at toss on Day 1 but the Indian batters could not find their rhythm once again and the entire team was rolled over on a score of just 185 runs. Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah took the sole wicket of Usman Khwaja on the last ball on Day 1 in order to keep his team in the game.
More than the wickets or the runs, an argument that Australian batter Sam Konstas had with the Indian captain dominated the play on Day 1. The heated exchange between the two players gave ammunition to the Indian camp as all the 11 players looked united in taking on the Aussie challenge.
Bumrah who has been the leading wicket-taker in BGT 2025, quickly came into action on Day 2 to get rid of Marnus Labuschagne. Later on, a fiery spell from pacer Mohammed Siraj saw Australia losing the crucial wickets of Travis Head and Sam Konstas in one over, taking the home side to a score of 39/4.
Later on, a 57-run partnership between Steve Smith and debutant Beau Webster saw the Aussies bounce back in the contest. However, Prasidh Krishna broke Australia’s momentum just at the stroke of Lunch session by getting the wicket of Steve Smith.
